SEABL NEWS NOW ON EASTERN FM
30.07.10 15:18Sandringham, Victoria, July 2010 – In a sign that the SEABL brand continues to grow, the latest League news and results can now be heard on Melbourne community radio station Eastern FM 98.1
As part of the Grassroots Community Sports Show with Justin Nelson on Saturday mornings, Melbourne-based radio producer Will Taylor hosts a ten minute segment from 8:05am.
The segment covers previous results and upcoming fixtures, and outlines what’s happening on the League website. The segment also covers breaking news from the League.
After hearing the impressive coverage of the Eastern Football League on the station, Mr Taylor approached Eastern FM Media Manager Anthony Stanguts with the idea of covering SEABL games.
Mr Taylor outlines how the idea was received, “Anthony was positive about the concept, and we subsequently worked through the logistics of promotions and other opportunities.”
Mr Taylor went on to say that there were plans in the pipeline for the segment to grow into something much more substantial.
“We are kicking off with a news segment this year, but we hope to develop the concept further next season. Using existing Eastern FM segments such as The Huddle and The Coin Toss as a model, we would like to have possibly an hour long show that covers not only news, but also incorporates player interviews with a light-hearted angle.”
“We are also discussing the possibility of podcasting or live streaming SEABL games next year. That coverage would include a pre-game show, half time analysis and a post-game summary of proceedings.”
SEABL General Manager Mark Chivers suggested that the Eastern FM segment demonstrated how the League was moving forward with regard to its media presence, “The League has been far more dynamic in the media recently. SEABL is now a lot more active on Facebook and Twitter, and our website content continues to evolve all the time.”
“The Eastern FM segment will not only compliment existing media coverage, but it will also bring a new audience to the League. These developments further show that SEABL is willing and able to embrace new media to reach these audiences.”
